An Update from Annabel

WOW!! What a couple of weeks it has been at Annabel’s Deliciously British. From concept in quarter four of 2018 to presenting to the buyers in quarter one of 2019, some might say this has been a whirlwind!

The development of the new brand has been rapid but it has come from 15 years of my experience in the strawberry growing industry. Since leaving university I have been nurturing, expanding & fine tuning the strawberry enterprise at Sturton Grange and it is that time spent hands-on that has allowed me to spot this opportunity to promote the very best the UK has to offer along with supporting others and helping to protect the environment.

From the varieties grown, to the 100% biodegradable packaging, to the highest specification of berries handpicked by experienced staff. I decided it was time to show the world what we have to offer under a brand they can recognise, add to that the 12hr from field to fork delivery service, incorporate my passion for the farming and food industry, my drive to educate consumers on how food is produced and why some food is more expensive than others (you get what you pay for) and my understanding that sustainability for our children is a necessity, I believe that makes us the finest at what we do.

I have spent much of the last few weeks in meetings with wholesalers and retailers who understand the value of superior quality fresh ingredients. Speaking with them and discussing all the exciting opportunities we have working together, it makes me realise that my enthusiasm for premium strawberries with an ethical and moral status is most definitely not misplaced.

Our message of sustainability has landed with every person I have spoken to. Whether it is our lake that provides all the water to the plants, the solar panels that provide electric to the packhouse or our mission to encourage natural pest control with our bug hotels, the message has come back loud and clear, this is what people want.

We have now closed to further customers and will spend the next two months focused on growing our wonderful Malling Centenary berries. Head to our wholesale and customer page to find out who we will be working with once the strawberries are ready in May!
