Welcome to 2020! It’s not quite the introduction to the year that I had in mind as we find ourselves in the midst of a pandemic and under nationwide lockdown. Rest assured though, the strawberry plants are still growing and life here at the farm goes on.
Like many businesses we have been able to continue operating thanks to the wonders of modern technology. Many of us are working remotely from home utilising every surface, plug socket and ounce of internet connection available.
Even Oscar and Jemima have been diligently keeping up with their school work from the dining room table. Home schooling isn’t always easy but we’re trying to stick to a routine and I couldn’t be prouder of how they are dealing with all of this unexpected change.
Family life has always been very important to me and now more than ever we are all pulling together to lift each other up. Oscar celebrated his 6th birthday last week and although it was a quieter than usual affair we tried to make the day as special as we could. He was incredibly excited to receive his very own quad bike and is now determined that he is ready to be a farm manager.
Our much-loved labrador gave birth to a litter of puppies back in February and Jemima has been helping to take care of them. Her kindness and determination is really shining through. It would be a very quiet world without our wonderful children and animals!
The sense that spring is in the air has been reinforced by the recent sunny spells. Flowers are starting to bloom all over the place and the garden is enough to brighten anyone’s day. We also have lambs arriving on the farm and the first set of twins were born last week.
Meanwhile there are thousands of strawberry plants which have quietly been enjoying the sunshine too… We’ll be updating you on when and where the first of our strawberries will be available soon. But first, there’s an Easter egg hunt to plan!
